Following the recent finale of “Star Wars: Rebels”, production for a new “Star Wars” animated series has been announced. The new series, “Star Wars: Resistance” will be animated in an anime-esq style and will focus on the sparsely covered time between “Return of the Jedi” and “The Force Awakens.”

It will follow a young Resistance pilot named Kazuda Xiono on his missions to investigate the dreaded First Order, and the growing threat it presents to the galaxy. The series will also feature several familiar faces from the movies such as Poe Dameron (Oscar Isaac) and Captain Phasma (Gwendoline Christie). Perhaps fans will finally get the Phasma screen time that they have been asking for, unless she just meets another trash compactor.

The series will be led by many of the same minds behind the last two animated series within the “Star Wars” galaxy, such as writer Dave Filoni. He said that “The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots”. He went on to say that both his grandfather and uncle worked with planes, and were a great influence. He finished by saying that his team has been hoping to do an anime-inspired series for a while, and thinks that it will capture the spirit of “Star Wars” perfectly.

The series will debut this fall on the Disney channel, and later on Disney XD. Hopefully the story lives up to Filoni’s previous works, and is a respectable addition to the Star Wars galaxy.
