At our school in case of any emergencies that have to do anything with an intruder, we included and introduced to our students a new unfamiliar method last year where students and teachers don’t just blockade the doors and shut off lights incase of any intruder attacks, but we now fight or flight. The new method is called “Alice”. Alice stands for, alert, lockdown, inform, counter, evacuate. For alert, it may be a gunshot, a AP announcement, etc. We try to avoid code words. For lockdown, if evacuation is not a safe option, we barricade entry points and prepare to evacuate. For inform, communicate real time information on shooter location. We use clear and direct language using any communication means possibly. For counter, as a last resort, distract shooters ability to shoot accurately. Move towards exits while making noise, throwing objects or adults swarm shooter. Lastly for evacuate, run from danger when safe to do so using non-tradition exits if necessary. Our rallying point is already predetermined.
