On Wednesday, February 27, Riverdale actor Luke Perry suffered a stroke. Perry was hospitalized after the police were called from his California home. Five days later on March 4, Perry passed away at age 52.

Prior to his death, his daughter, Sophie Perry, returned home from her trip to Africa to be at her father’s bedside. It has not been confirmed whether or not his daughter knew of his impending passing. The two were reportedly very close and Sophie would often post about her close relationship with her father on her Instagram account. However, Sophie was not the only family member who stood by his bedside. She was joined by his son Jack, “fiance Wendy Madison Bauer, ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends,” according to TMZ.

Perry’s death falls only a few days after the announced reboot of the show “90210” for which Perry played the iconic role of Dylan McKay. Although a majority of the original cast had signed on to partake in the reboot with their original roles, Perry had not signed due to his commitment to “Riverdale.”

Many of his co-stars are not taking well to their dear friend’s death. Lili Reinhart, one of Perry’s “Riverdale” co-stars, posted to Twitter, “I’m finding it hard to grasp that he will no longer be around to give long hugs and share his wisdom and kindness with all of us.” Alongside her Twitter posts, Reinhart also shared a poem to Instagram which reads:

“It’s strange to see the world move on. When someone you love, gets taken from you. And the small circumference surrounding you is stuck. Frozen in a moment. Of loss. And Shock. Yet the people passing you are moving at full speed. Did they not feel the earth shake? Or slow? Can they hear the thoughts screaming in my head? His name. His face. Memories. Flashes. Of a friend. A lost friend. We always expect the earth to stand still. For the universe to grieve the loved ones we have lost, along with us. But it keeps moving. Maybe as a sign that we should too. The movement of a stranger, like a wave, taking us with them. So we ebb and flow with the passage of others, coasting off their energy and conserving our own. Because it’s too hard to give anything right now. To anyone. Except for him. The one we’ve lost, And I pray that he’s silently moving in tandem with us. Guiding us through the waves even when we can’t swim.”

It comes as no surprise that many on the cast of “Riverdale” are having a hard time upon their co-worker’s passing, and subsequently, the set has been shut down until the cast has had sufficient time to grieve their loss. Even cast members from “90210” have been posting about their grievances of the loss despite the cast members growing apart after the conclusion of the original show.

Currently, in honor of their beloved’s death, Perry’s family is asking for donations to  Fight Colorectal Cancer and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
