On Monday a woman was struck by a train and killed near Wason Avenue and Clinton Street in the north end of Springfield. An Amtrak train was heading to Vermont when it hit a woman, who was trying to cross the railroad tracks. Officials have said that the woman was trespassing at the time she was hit. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center where she died from her injuries. There were 87 passengers/crew members on board, no one on the train was injured. The train was delayed for about 2 hours. Neighbors in that area have said that people always walk across the tracks and it can get dangerous at times. The woman has not been identified. There will be more information about the woman and the incident but for now the Springfield and Amtrak officials are still trying to determine how it happened.
