Grumpy Cat

On April 4th, 2012, a cat was born in Morristown, Arizona. Today this cat is known as the Grumpy Cat, an internet sensation. Her real name is Tartar Sauce given by her owner Tabatha. Tartar sauce suffered from an underbite and feline dwarfism. Tabatha’s brother posted a picture on Reddit of Tartar Sauce, and the meme of Grumpy Cat blew up.

The first  Reddit page of Grumpy Cat had more than 25,300 upvotes in the first 24 hours, which was a lot for 2012. In the first 48 hours it had more than 1,030,000 views, and it only got bigger. Soon people were making their own renditions of the cat and photoshopping pictures. In 2013 a book was released of Grumpy Cat. At this point not many people didn’t know who Grumpy Cat was. A year after the book release, a movie was made about the cat.

Grumpy Cat is one of the most infamous memes on the internet even today. Many people have grumpy cat shirts or socks and many have posters, including some teachers. People take pictures of Grumpy Cat and add words to it having it say words like, “I love math, it makes people cry.” This cat has brought thousands, if not millions of people happiness throughout the years.

Sadly on May 14, 2019, Grumpy Cat passed away and the internet was devastated. Everyone loved this cat and was very sad to see her go. But her legacy will forever live on through the internet.
